The draft law concerning the ratification of a temporary trade agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was approved in the first reading by the parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
During the discussions, the deputies expressed interest in whether important products such as meat and legumes are included in the list of goods that fall under preferential tariffs. Choro Seiitov, the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan, confirmed that meat products are indeed covered by this agreement.
Seiitov also noted that the meat to be imported from Mongolia is currently cheaper and expressed hope that the reduction of tariffs will positively affect consumers and help keep prices stable in Kyrgyzstan.
Among the goods covered by the agreement are also vegetables, fruits, legumes, and various types of machinery and equipment.
The draft law, which received approval in the first reading, must undergo additional parliamentary procedures before final ratification. If the agreement is fully adopted, it could improve Kyrgyzstan's access to more affordable imported goods and promote economic integration in the region.
Earlier, last year, Kyrgyzstan discussed the possibility of importing meat from Mongolia. This was confirmed by Zhenali Orozbekov, the head of the antimonopoly regulation service at the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
In August 2025, statements were also made regarding the interest of Kyrgyz companies in importing all types of livestock from Mongolia and developing long-term cooperation. During the meetings, issues of stable and mutually beneficial trade turnover, as well as directions for further cooperation, were discussed.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia reported that in 2025, meat and meat product exports amounted to 85,400 tons, equivalent to $343.9 million.
