At a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Beijing, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of equal participation of all parties in negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. According to the press service of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he noted that the international situation has undergone significant changes since World War II.

Xi Jinping stressed that China maintains a "principled" position on the issue of the war in Ukraine. He added that the conflict can only be resolved through consistent dialogue and negotiations.

Key aspects for achieving peace, he said, include taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties and strengthening the desire for peace, as well as forming a reliable security architecture.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, this statement by Xi Jinping also indicates the necessity of involving Europe in the peace process.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, for his part, urged the Chinese leader to use China's influence over Moscow to persuade Russia to end military actions in Ukraine.

"Signals from Beijing are taken very seriously in Moscow, both in words and actions," he noted.

Earlier, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker remarked that China could influence the end of the conflict "with one call" to Moscow.

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that at this moment, China is not showing active interest in ending the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.
