A meeting of the leadership is taking place in Mongolia, where priorities and operational directions for the Main Department for Emergency Situations (MDES) for 2026 are being established.
The government of the country has committed to implementing the project "Strengthening Resilience to Natural Disasters in Mongolia," aimed at enhancing national resilience, particularly regarding natural disasters. The corresponding funding framework program was presented to the Asian Development Bank on November 4, 2025, and received approval from the Great State Khural in December of the same year.
This project, valued at $100 million, will focus on increasing the number of vehicles, equipment, and resources necessary for search and rescue and emergency recovery operations. The meeting emphasized that the initiative will also help improve the preparedness of local authorities and communities to respond to natural disasters.
Despite the increase in the number of natural disasters and emergencies, the MDES is successfully fulfilling its core tasks, including disaster prevention, rescue, and aftermath mitigation. In 2025, the agency achieved its annual goals and received a high rating of "A" with an effectiveness of 94.1 percent in the overall assessment of its operational activities.
