In February of this year, a month-long campaign called "Be Responsible!" will kick off in Kyrgyzstan, focusing on the early detection of risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

As part of this initiative, men are encouraged to visit local primary healthcare facilities, such as family medicine centers, general practitioner practices, family doctor groups, and midwifery stations, for preventive consultations and medical examinations.

In 2025, more than 973,000 men across the country underwent screening for non-communicable diseases. Of these, 119,600 (12%) were found to have elevated blood pressure, 49,600 (5%) were at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, and about 60,800 (6%) men were at risk of developing diabetes.

During 2025, 15,388 individuals were newly registered with a diagnosis of hypertension and 7,364 individuals with a diagnosis of diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases were responsible for 16,644 deaths among the adult population of the country over the year.

The health month has been conducted since 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland and coordinated by the Ministry of Health.

Non-communicable diseases include chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular, oncological, respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main risk factors are poor nutrition, tobacco and alcohol consumption, and a lack of physical activity.

This nationwide project aims to improve the health of the population through the development of primary healthcare and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
