The Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance reported receiving information from Forester LLC, which is the official distributor of Nestlé baby food products.
According to the distributor, the central office of Nestlé in Russia decided to carry out a voluntary recall of certain batches of baby food. The recall concerns dry instant milk, fermented milk, and lactose-free formulas under the brands NAN 1 OPTIPRO, NAN OPTIPRO 2, NAN EXPERTPRO, NAN 2 OPTIPRO, PRENAN, and NAN LACTOSE FREE, produced on specific dates.
This measure is a precaution and part of a global voluntary recall process related to a potential risk of the presence of the toxin cereulide in the raw material (arachidonic acid).
The official distributor has already begun the withdrawal of the affected batches of products from the retail network in Kyrgyzstan.
The department also recommends that consumers check the packaging and production date of the formulas used. If they match the recalled batches, it is necessary to stop using them and contact the distributor for a return. Sellers are advised to halt the sale of the specified batches and organize their withdrawal from circulation.
According to the manufacturer, the recall affects a limited number of batches that may contain the toxin cereulide. Cereulide is a toxin produced by certain strains of the Bacillus cereus bacteria. It is not destroyed by boiling and is resistant to high temperatures. Symptoms that may arise after consuming products with high levels of cereulide include vomiting and diarrhea, which can resemble food poisoning or an allergic reaction to cow's milk proteins.
