Jazgul Ibraimova: Organic farming is not a trend, but a chance to save our soil

At a recent event "Organic Agri-Dialogue," dedicated to the future of agriculture, Jazgul Ibraimova, a senior lecturer at KNAU, expressed an important thought that organic farming in Kyrgyzstan can only develop if we stop viewing it as a temporary trend. She noted that this is essentially the only way to preserve soil health and ensure food security for future generations.

According to Ibraimova, issues of ecology and health are no longer just theoretical concepts, but a pressing necessity. "The transition to organic farming is not a fleeting trend, but a step based on scientific data and economic feasibility," she emphasized.

As an expert in soil science and agrochemistry, Jazgul reminded of the serious consequences of uncontrolled use of mineral fertilizers and chemicals: soil loses its viability, humus disappears, and the natural balance is disrupted. In contrast, the organic approach promotes soil restoration by activating microflora and maintaining its fertility for many years.

The foundation of this system lies in simple yet effective methods: composting, using green manures, bioprotection, and proper agronomic practices. This not only improves product quality but also ensures food safety on a completely different level.

Moreover, there is practical benefit for the country. The demand for eco-friendly products is growing in both domestic and international markets. This provides Kyrgyz farmers with the opportunity to increase their income and improve export prospects.

Nevertheless, Jazgul Ibraimova honestly acknowledged that the transition to organic farming will not happen overnight. It is a long and complex process that requires significant knowledge and government support. "We, as scientists and educators, are obliged to reach out to farmers, provide consultations, conduct soil analyses, and help implement new technologies in practice," she concluded.
