According to the expert, the modern global economic system and international organizations are no longer able to effectively perform their functions. In particular, the World Trade Organization has lost its ability to regulate current processes.
“The creation of business forums at such a time is essentially an attempt to find solutions,” he noted.
Pirimbaev also emphasized that the current economic situation highlights the importance of the South and Southeast Asian region for the fate of the 21st century. In this regard, the economic interests of major powers become primary, and they begin to intertwine with political issues.
He reminded that the first forum in the 5+1 format took place in Almaty in 2024, after which a similar event was held in Beijing with the participation of China and the countries of the region.
“For major powers, such formats may not have decisive significance, but for us, they are extremely important. We are in the process of finding our place in the system of international relations from both an economic and political perspective,” the economist added.
The key issue, according to him, remains the long-term role and place of relations among the five Central Asian countries, as this region will have a noticeable impact on economic development in the 21st century.
Pirimbaev noted that the current format of the forum should be viewed as an opportunity to seize a historical moment. At the same time, he emphasized the need to enhance political literacy within the country.
“The 2024 forum took place, but society is not informed about its results. Moreover, we ourselves do not fully understand the outcomes. If such events are held, we must learn to summarize the results; otherwise, they may become politicized,” he concluded.
