Education plays a key role in preventing the threat of nuclear weapons - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Today, a regional conference titled "Education for Peace and Security" is taking place in Bishkek, where the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asein Isaev, emphasized the importance of education in the context of nuclear disarmament.

Asein Isaev informed the Kabar agency that the initiative to introduce a special day dedicated to this topic has received international approval. He noted that the United Nations supports the idea of celebrating this day in countries around the world to raise awareness about the risks associated with nuclear weapons.

“Today, it is difficult to call this day a celebration, as issues related to nuclear weapons remain relevant. Kyrgyzstan, as a developing nation, does not possess a nuclear arsenal, and it is extremely important for us to understand how to ensure security and protection. We are convinced that through education and informing citizens, we need to convey to them how dangerous nuclear weapons are and that their use is unacceptable,” he emphasized.

The Deputy Minister also recalled the tragic events that occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, stressing that the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons should serve as a warning for all humanity.

Furthermore, Isaev noted that after gaining independence, Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its commitment to renouncing nuclear weapons, a stance also supported by other Central Asian states, which initiated the creation of a nuclear-free zone in the region.

“The five nuclear powers - the USA, Russia, China, France, and the UK have provided guarantees to the Central Asian countries that they will never use nuclear weapons against us. They have committed not to threaten the regions, even in the event of possible conflicts,” he added.
