UNICEF has delivered nearly 250 tablets to the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, attended by Minister Damir Osmonov and UNICEF representative in the country, Samman Jung Tapa.

According to the ministry's press center, key areas of cooperation were discussed, including maternal and child health protection, the development of primary healthcare, immunization, and the implementation of digital technologies in the healthcare system.

Damir Osmonov noted: “Joint efforts have led to significant achievements. Over the past 10 years, the child mortality rate in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 73 percent. According to a comprehensive study conducted in 2023 with the support of UNICEF, over the past five years, the mortality rate of children under five has decreased from 20 to 16.5 per 1,000 live births.”

The minister emphasized the importance of UNICEF's support in developing primary healthcare and providing services for pregnant women, newborns, and adolescents, as well as in creating modern medical service standards.

Particular attention was paid to support in the area of medication supply. Osmonov reported that the ministry has already begun purchasing medicines through UNICEF and plans to continue expanding this cooperation.

During the meeting, issues related to strengthening the immunization system were also discussed, including joint efforts to increase vaccination coverage and develop a national vaccine management system.

Additionally, the parties emphasized the development of telemedicine through the Telemed.kg platform, which allows residents of remote areas to access consultations with specialists.

As part of the digitalization of primary healthcare, UNICEF has provided 247 tablets that will be used by healthcare workers for remote consultations, which will enhance the accessibility of medical services.

As Damir Osmonov added, further cooperation with UNICEF will contribute to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the health of families and children in Kyrgyzstan.
