In May 2025, a nationwide testing took place, in which many applicants participated, choosing from three to seven subject tests. This is noted in the report from the Center for Educational Assessment and Learning Methods (CEALM). Participants often selected multiple subjects, indicating their uncertainty about their future specialty, hoping they could enroll somewhere.

According to CEALM data, the choice of subject tests depends on the specialty the applicant plans to pursue. For most specialties, passing one subject test is sufficient; however, for admission to the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy and some private medical universities, two tests must be taken — in biology and chemistry.

The most popular subject among applicants was the history test, while the least chosen was the test in Russian language and literature, introduced in 2020.
This year, there is a trend towards increasing interest in the English language test, while physics remains the least popular subject among the participants of the nationwide testing.

“Compared to the main test, subject tests pose more difficulties for applicants. As in previous years, the highest average score was recorded for those who took the English language test (88.2). The average scores for natural science subjects in 2025 were similar: mathematics — 65.4, biology — 63.1, chemistry — 61. However, the average score in physics decreased by 2.2 percent to 59.4, which is related to the shortage of teachers in the country,” the report states.

The average scores for humanities subjects were distributed as follows: Kyrgyz language and literature — 72.5, Russian language and literature — 71.5, history — 69.8. The authors of the report emphasize that, despite the fact that the average scores for subject tests still remain low, the results for 2025 in all subjects, except for physics, showed an improvement of 2-6 points compared to 2024.

It is worth noting that since 2012, the nationwide testing has become mandatory for admission to all higher educational institutions in the republic, regardless of their form of ownership. However, there are special areas for which testing results are not required, such as physical education and sports, culture, and arts.
