Irina Martynenko, a dermatologist from the Republican Center for Dermatovenereology, warned young people against self-treating acne during a broadcast on "Birinchi Radio."

Previously, the doctor outlined the factors contributing to the onset of the condition.

According to specialists, many teenagers turn to the internet for information without having sufficient knowledge to distinguish reliable advice from falsehoods. Martynenko noted that myths about acne treatment are still widespread, leading young people to use aggressive remedies such as toothpaste.

She reported that some patients suffer from acne for several years before seeking help from a dermatologist, believing that the problem will resolve itself. Often, parents also give similar advice, citing their own experiences: "I had it, and it went away, so yours will too." This is a misconception. The doctor added that young people may try various cosmetic products in hopes of results, but often without success. Visiting a cosmetologist may seem more appealing; however, cosmetology should complement treatment, not replace it. Initially, it is necessary to consult a dermatologist rather than wait for the situation to worsen and require more prolonged treatment.

Martynenko emphasized the importance of an individual approach in treating skin diseases and warned that popping pimples only exacerbates the inflammatory process.
