“I am a disabled person of group II and underwent a kidney transplant several years ago. Previously, I spent quite a long time receiving treatment in Germany. In 2026, I have a scheduled operation, and that is why I approached the court for permission to leave. I had medical documents from Germany and certificates from local doctors, but Judge Almaz Jumagulov denied my request,” noted Bayan Jumagulova.
During the announcement of the court's decision, the journalist felt unwell and lost consciousness. Her relatives took Bayan to the National Hospital, where she received first aid, and then she returned home.
According to reports, the court provided a brief comment to "Azattyk," indicating that the case in which Jumagulova is accused falls under the category of less serious crimes, and the judge took this aspect into account when making the decision.
In 2024, a criminal case was opened against Bayan Jumagulova under the article "Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious, or interregional hostility (hatred)" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. According to the court's decision, she is prohibited from leaving her place of residence as a preventive measure in the form of a travel ban.
The proceedings in the journalist's case have been ongoing in the district court for more than a year and a half for various reasons.
Bayan Jumagulova is currently 67 years old and is a disabled person of group II. She previously worked at "Azattyk" and has since retired.
