A health month for men 'Be Responsible!' has started in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has initiated the health month "Be Responsible!", aimed at identifying risk factors for non-communicable diseases among men over 18 years old. The goal of the campaign is to increase the level of early detection of chronic diseases and encourage men to seek medical assistance in a timely manner.

As part of this event, men are recommended to undergo preventive medical examinations at primary healthcare facilities located in their place of residence. These can be family medicine centers, general practice clinics, family doctor groups, and feldsher-obstetric points.

Experience from previous years demonstrates the high effectiveness of this campaign. Last year, more than 973,000 men across the country underwent preventive screening for non-communicable diseases. Among them, 119,600, or approximately 12%, were found to have elevated blood pressure. The risk of cardiovascular diseases was identified in 49,600 men, and a high risk of developing diabetes was found in nearly 60,800.

According to statistics from 2025, 15,388 people were registered with a diagnosis of hypertension, and 7,364 with diabetes. In the same year, cardiovascular diseases were responsible for 16,644 deaths among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan.

The health month "Be Responsible!" has been conducted since 2019. It was initially launched as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by Switzerland, and is now implemented annually under the patronage of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Non-communicable diseases are chronic and include cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors are considered to be unhealthy diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity.

The project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," funded by the Swiss government, covers the entire country and aims to improve the health of the population, ensure equal access to quality primary healthcare services, and promote a healthy lifestyle.
