The total amount needed to upgrade the water supply infrastructure in the recently annexed areas of Bishkek is nearly 2.5 billion soms. This information was announced by the director of the municipal enterprise "Bishkekvodokanal," Chyngyz Jumaliev, at a meeting of the permanent commission of the city council.

As part of the administrative-territorial reform (ATR), "Bishkekvodokanal" has taken on the technical maintenance of 29 water intakes, 59 wells, as well as 373 kilometers of water supply and 101 kilometers of sewage networks.

“Although we have not officially taken these facilities onto our balance sheet, maintenance continues. Since the beginning of 2024, more than 1,000 requests for emergency repairs have been registered in the new territories. This concerns major incidents, and there have been even more minor ones,” noted Jumaliev.

The director added that approximately 380,000 cubic meters of water pass through the central treatment facilities daily.

“We plan to increase this volume to 500,000 cubic meters and build two new treatment facilities: 'Zapad' near the village of Dacha SU and 'Vostok' in the village of Leninskoe. This will require 27 billion soms,” he added.

“We provide full technical support on issues of sewage and water supply. However, we have asked the Bishkek city administration not to asphalt the new territories, as it is necessary to complete the construction of new networks first. It is essential for the capital construction management to take on this task and allocate the corresponding funds in the local budget. It is important not only to replace the networks but also to install water meters and wells,” explained Chyngyz Jumaliev.

According to the director, due to damage to plastic pipes installed using the ashar method, there are water losses, and the lack of meters leads to irrational use of the resource.
