The states that are part of the Commonwealth of Independent States have reached an agreement on mutual recognition and enforcement of court orders regarding alimony for minor children. This was reported by the publication "Vedomosti".

Recently, the State Duma of Russia ratified amendments to two conventions concerning legal assistance in civil, family, and criminal matters: the 2002 Chisinau Convention and the 1993 Minsk Convention. This initiative was presented by President Vladimir Putin at the beginning of January for consideration by the lower house of parliament.

Now, alimony collectors will be able to submit applications to the court for the recognition and enforcement of such orders. It is important that along with the petition, they provide an official document confirming that the order has entered into legal force and is subject to enforcement, if this is not specified in the document itself. A copy of the court order confirming its delivery or sending to the debtor must also be attached. All documents must be submitted with a certified translation either into Russian or into the language of the country where the court application is being made.
