According to Sanjar Isaev, Deputy Chairman of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund, by the end of 2025, there were 1 million 165 thousand registered cases of hospitalization in Kyrgyzstan. This number, as he noted on the air of Radio "Sputnik Kyrgyzstan," has remained stable for several years.

For comparison, in 2023, the number of hospitalizations was 1 million 95 thousand, and in 2024, it was 1 million 167 thousand.

“It is necessary to understand whether this is a lot or a little,” emphasized Isaev. He noted that while this indicator does not raise critical remarks within the healthcare system, it is important for it to decrease annually. Recent reforms are aimed at developing primary healthcare, including clinics and feldsher-midwifery points, rather than hospitals. Investing in outpatient services will be a priority,” he added.

According to statistics, among the 1.1 million hospitalization cases, the largest number of patients are children under 18 years old (36%) and retirees (16%). Working citizens account for only 9% of the total number of hospitalizations, farmers for 6%, and people receiving benefits for 7%. Other categories make up 14% of the cases.

As for the reasons for hospitalizations, in 2025, pregnancy and childbirth topped the list with 290 thousand cases. This is followed by respiratory diseases (120 thousand cases), nervous system disorders (105 thousand), cardiovascular diseases (91 thousand), and digestive system diseases (97 thousand).

Sanjar Isaev added that the country has transitioned from the outdated Soviet system, where patients often went to the hospital unnecessarily, just to receive intravenous therapy for prevention. Now we have a classifier of services for inpatient and outpatient levels, and the primary care physician must justifiably refer patients for hospitalization,” he emphasized.
