The support for Kyrgyzstan in the UN Security Council was also discussed at the meeting
During his official visit to Turkey, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, met with the country's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as reported by the parliament's press service.
The negotiations addressed issues of expanding cultural-humanitarian and political-economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Turgunbek uulu emphasized that the strategic partnership between the two countries continues to strengthen, noting the upcoming state visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Kyrgyzstan in 2024, which is expected to lead to the signing of important bilateral agreements.
He also highlighted the need for the rapid ratification of the agreements reached and mentioned that he had already discussed this issue with Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Economic aspects were given special attention. The Speaker stated that it is necessary to increase trade turnover between the countries to 5 billion dollars and called for the activation of joint investment projects in areas such as energy and mining. In addition, he proposed to extend the visa-free regime from 90 to 180 days and to consider the possibility of using internal passports for citizens.
The Kyrgyz side also expressed a request for support for its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.
Hakan Fidan, in turn, congratulated Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu on his re-election as Speaker and expressed support for initiatives on investment cooperation. He also confirmed Turkey's readiness to support Kyrgyzstan's candidacy in the UN Security Council and noted that the issue of quotas for labor migrants had already been resolved earlier.
The discussion also touched on the healthcare sector, where the Speaker proposed creating special conditions for the treatment of Kyrgyz citizens, including cancer patients, in medical institutions in Turkey.
