Launched in 2009 by South Korea, the Global Hansik program was aimed at promoting Korean cuisine beyond the country's borders. Initially, it faced criticism; however, in the following years, research showed that interest in Korean cuisine in major cities around the world has significantly increased, as reported by BBC News.

Today, Korean cuisine has become an integral part of the global K-wave: cooking shows broadcast on Netflix are becoming real hits, and interest in Korean gastronomy abroad continues to grow.

In the United Kingdom, for example, there has been a significant increase in searches for "Korean barbecue" — by 60%, while sales of gochujang have risen by 70%. Additionally, kimchi has gained status as one of the most sought-after imported products.
