Electricity consumption in the country continues to increase.
At a recent meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, issues related to the autumn-winter heating period of 2025-2026 were discussed.
According to the Ministry of Energy's report, electricity consumption in the country rose to 19.3 billion kWh in 2025, which is 900 million kWh more than in 2024. Of this volume, 15.4 billion kWh was produced domestically, while 3.9 billion kWh was imported.
This year, as in the entire Central Asian region, a decrease in water flow has also been observed. In particular, the Toktogul Reservoir currently holds 9.102 billion m³ of water, which is 1.631 billion m³ less compared to the same period in 2025.
Experts warn that the water shortage may negatively impact electricity production. In this regard, it is strongly recommended to strictly adhere to the established electricity consumption limits, although this is not always followed in practice.
Nevertheless, the coal reserves necessary for successfully passing the heating season are sufficient. Approximately 3,174,792 tons of coal are required for heating needs. The thermal power plants in Bishkek and Osh also have quite good reserves of coal and fuel oil.
