This clarification was a response to citizens' questions regarding the need for urgent document replacement. Relevant authorities clarified that the process of renewing old-style driver's licenses is voluntary.
Only for trips abroad is it required to obtain new licenses indicating the validity period, which is related to international standards. Within Kyrgyzstan, old licenses remain completely legal and valid.
Thus, for those who do not intend to travel abroad, exchanging driver's licenses is not mandatory. However, if desired, a driver can independently apply for a new document.
