The Fox News channel reported on the U.S. State Department's decision to suspend the issuance of immigration visas for citizens of 75 countries. This measure will come into effect on January 21 and will last for an indefinite period.

This decision is related to the tightening of checks under immigration legislation concerning "public charge." U.S. authorities will assess whether applicants may become a potential "burden" on the state and require social benefits.

Among the criteria that will be considered during the checks are health, age, level of English proficiency, financial situation, and the likelihood of needing long-term medical care.

State Department representative Tommy Pigott noted that the agency intends to use its authority to deny visas to those immigrants who may become a burden on the U.S. and rely on the assistance of the American people.

Kyrgyzstan is included in the list of countries for which the issuance of visas will be suspended. This will affect those Kyrgyz citizens who planned to immigrate to the U.S. through various programs, including family reunification. We remind you that an immigration visa allows for relocation to the U.S. for permanent residence (with the receipt of permanent resident status or Green Card).
