The concept of scientific and technological development of the transport complex of Russia until 2035 was officially adopted by the government of the country. This document, signed by Mikhail Mishustin, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, includes plans for the revival of technology development for both cargo and passenger airships.
Within the framework of this concept, airships have been granted the status of one of the promising transport solutions, alongside civil supersonic aircraft, ekranoplans, and means of aeromobility. To ensure the implementation of these technologies in Russia, it is planned to create at least nine competence centers and about 50 laboratories by 2035. Coordination of scientific research will be carried out by a new institute that will become part of the Russian University of Transport.
However, the direction of airship construction development faces certain difficulties. The main problems lie in the relatively low speed of the aircraft and the need to create expensive ground infrastructure. After the tragic events of the 1930s and the 1964 decision on the impracticality of this direction, there has been no significant funding for this industry in the USSR and Russia. Later projects, such as those developed for the Ministry of Defense, were never realized.
