Farmers are urged to switch to water-saving methods due to a possible water shortage

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic (KR) has expressed concern about the potential shortage of water resources and has called on farmers to transition to water-saving methods.

“Given the climate changes and the decrease in precipitation during the 2026 growing season, there is a risk of water scarcity. This may lead to restrictions on irrigation water volumes and shortages in several regions,” the ministry noted.

The agency recommended that farmers adopt the following strategies:

implement water-saving technologies such as drip and sprinkler irrigation;

grow crops that require less water;

use drought-resistant seeds.

“For water supply issues, you can contact local agricultural development offices or specialists from the ministry. During the irrigation season, the ministry will focus on the fair distribution of water resources,” the message added.
